The Mission of Dixon Carter Scholarship Fund is to BUILD a collaborative network of diverse stakeholders to support individuals as they pursue higher education.
The Vision of Dixon Carter Scholarship Fund is to IMPACT the lives of others and make an impact that cannot be erased by providing support and financial assistance to graduating high school seniors willing to pursue higher education on their continued strive for excellence.
The Purpose of the Dixon Carter Scholarship Fund is to SUPPORT deserving high school graduating seniors intending to pursue a course of study at either a two-year or four-year educational institution. To help others reach their aspirations and dreams, encouraging along the way so that they know that they have others cheering for their success.
Rashawnda “Shawn” Dixon is a child of God, a daughter, sister, friend, confidante, scholar, athlete and much more. She went home at the age of fifteen (15), just eighteen (18) days before her sixteenth birthday. Since then the family was committed to helping others. Her parents started the Rashawnda Dixon memorial scholarship fund in 1998 awarding graduating high school senior(s) a small monetary gift as a congratulatory for their milestone. This scholarship was created in their daughters’ memory, as she did not have the chance to graduate high school and attend higher education.
Lucas was a man of many talents, and as his high school motto states; he was a true gentleman, scholar and athlete.
Lucas prided himself in the happiness of others. For the last eight years, we have modeled ourselves after Lucas and worked to provide happiness to others and help them on their continued strive for excellence. We have awarded recipients with The Lucas L. Carter scholarship to allow them to attend a public or private institution of higher learning. Helping others reach their aspirations and dreams is something Lucas would have truly wanted.
The Dixon memorial scholarship mainly stayed at Greater Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin, TN. When the Dixon’s eldest son Lamar Dixon married the sister of Lucas Carter, LaShan Mathews Dixon, in 2014 they wanted to continue the good work that were done before them. Together they presented annual memorial scholarships in their siblings honor in the Rutherford County area through First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Their mission was to also give a small monetary gift to help offset the cost the recipient(s) would incur attending the college/university of their choice.
Helping others reach their aspirations and dreams is something both Lucas & Rashawnda would have truly wanted. Young women and men who exemplify a true servant’s heart, scholastic achievement and a desire to better not only themselves but also the world around them receive this award.
